New Valley

New Valley (Arabic: الوادي الجديد; UNGEGN: al-Wādī al-Jadīd) is Egypt’s largest governorate by area, located in the southwestern part of the country within the vast Western Desert. Covering approximately 376,505 square kilometers (145,456 square miles), it makes up nearly 40% of Egypt’s total landmass, yet remains sparsely populated. The capital city of the governorate is Kharga.Renowned for its oases, including Kharga, Dakhla, and Farafra, the New Valley is a region of remarkable natural beauty and ancient heritage. It is home to archaeological sites such as the Hibis Temple, Al-Bagawat Christian Cemetery, and numerous Pharaonic and Roman ruins scattered across its desert landscapes. Today, the governorate is also a hub for agricultural projects and eco-tourism, offering travelers a blend of history, culture, and desert adventure.
